Includes every U.S.-affiliated station (K/PA/PH/PW/TJ/TI prefixes) in NOAA's latest hourly
bulk METAR file. Parsed from raw text by this script, not a pre-decoded feed — unusual
or malformed report groups may be skipped for that field. Heat Index and
Wind Chill are calculated from temperature/dew point/wind, not transmitted directly,
and only apply in their respective NWS-defined ranges (Heat Index ≥80°F, Wind Chill
≤50°F with wind >3 mph) — otherwise shown as —.
Includes every non-U.S. station in NOAA's latest hourly bulk METAR file — the whole
worldwide network reporting that hour, not a curated subset. Parsed from raw text by this
script, not a pre-decoded feed — unusual or malformed report groups may be skipped for
that field, and some stations may show no Location name if they aren't in the airport
lookup. Heat Index and Wind Chill are calculated from temperature/dew
point/wind, not transmitted directly, and only apply in their respective NWS-defined ranges
(Heat Index ≥80°F, Wind Chill ≤50°F with wind >3 mph) — otherwise
shown as —.
Decoded from raw FM-12 SYNOP bulletins — primarily NOAA's direct GTS mirror,
falling back to Ogimet only if that's unreachable. Wind Gust and a RMK-style Remark
are not part of the SYNOP code form and are omitted from this tab. Visibility is decoded
from a WMO code table and is approximate. Weather Type is decoded using
whichever of WMO's two present-weather tables (4677 manned / 4680 automatic) the
station's own report indicates — the two tables assign different meanings to the
same numbers. 12Hr/24Hr Precip only populate when a station's reporting period
matches exactly (many stations report 6-hr totals instead, which have no dedicated
column here). 24Hr Max/Min Temp come from the SYNOP section-3 Tx/Tn groups, which
the code form doesn't strictly guarantee are a 24-hour window — treat as
best-effort. Rel. Humidity, Heat Index, and Wind Chill are calculated from
temperature/dew point/wind, not transmitted directly — treat as estimates.
Stations are WMO indices, not NWS site codes, so they are not linked.
